If you are one of those Facebook users who cannot spend an hour without login to your Facebook account, you should have noticed many a times your friends updating their status via some unknown devices or something entirely that can not in any way have access to an internet network. I guess you have been wondering how that can be possible. Normally, whenever you log into your Facebook account using a smartphone, Facebook automatically identifies the make of that device and therefore saves it as your default operating system. This means that any thing you do on Facebook will be tagged as via that device which you used to log into your Facebook account.
So today, I will be showing you guys how to make you status show as being updated via your website (i.e. instead of showing something like via Blackberry Smartphone or via iOS, what will be displaying will be via yourwebsite.com). This trick is very simple to follow and shouldn't take any of time if you read through carefully. Here is how to update your Facebook status via your website
Step 1: Creating a Facebook App for It
Almost every widget or trick which is related to Facebook requires that you create a Facebook App for it first before it can work. So to be able to update your Facebook status via your website, you need to first
- Visit Facebook Developer page to create an App for it.
- When the page opens, locate and click on App >>> Create New App.
- If you have never created a Facebook App before, you will need to first Register and then click on the Create New App button.
- On the next page, enter the Apps Name. Leave the Namespace blank since it is optional and select Apps for Pages under the heading Category then click on Create App. (NOTE: Whatever you enter as the Apps Name will be what you will be updating your status via. So it is wise you input your website name since that is basically what this tutorial is all about).
- Next enter the CAPTCHA as shown and then click on Submit button.
- Now copy the App ID that is displayed and paste in a Notepad because we will be needing it later.
- The next thing to do is click on Settings from the App’s Panel.
- Click on +Add Platform which is located just below the Contact Email box.
- From the pop up list that will come up, select Website.
- Enter your website or blog’s URL into the box for Site URL and click on Save Changes.
Step 3: Changing the Logo of the App (This Will be the Logo that will Appear as Your Website Favicon when you Update Facebook via your website).
- To change the logo icon of the App you created, locate and click on App Details from the App’s Panel.
- Scroll down the page till you get to Icons. Click on Logo to add a logo to your App.
- On the Pop up page, click on the Choose File to select a logo you want to use for your App (Make sure the Logo is re-sized to 1024 × 1024).
- Repeat the above step two steps to add an add an Icon for the App. But this time, click on Icon instead of Logo. Make sure the icon you want to use has a measurement of 16 × 16.
- Once you are done with that, click on Save Changes.
Final Step: Posting to Facebook via Your Website
This step is where you get the URL which you will be using to post via your website. To do this, you need to be logged into your Facebook account and then
- Copy the URL below into the address bar of the browser you are using and hit Enter or click Go.
http://facebook.com/dialog/feed? app_id=
537868009661616& redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Ffacebook.com
- You should notice that the status box will be showing via Easytins.com when you hit Enter. To change this, simply replace my App ID in the URL above as shown in red with your own App ID. Copy the URL again and paste into the address bar of the browser you are using and hit Enter or click Go.
With that, you will simply be updating your Facebook status via your website. If you have any question related to this, feel free to let me know by leaving a comment below.
